SECRET HOUSE OF DEATH- JIAH KHAN

The arrest of actor Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj Pancholi, following the suicide of his ex-girlfriend Jiah Khan, is worth debating on whether it is fair to call a suicide resulting from a lover’s tiff as abetment. Sooraj was arrested after Jiah’s mother handed a six page letter, allegedly written by Jiah in which she blames her boyfriend for abuse.
One life has already gone, now why are we killing the other’s life with this media trial? One needs to understand that the stigma attached to this controversy is affecting his life both personally and professionally. Also the suicide letter doesn't say she was raped by him. It says- "After the rape I didn't deserve all this”.
During a break up, it’s natural to feel depressed, but one needs to be strong and rational. People who support Jiah’s mother’s efforts to put Sooraj behind the bars are being emotionally swept away by the incident. Jiah couldn't deal with her own problems. She could have walked out instead of just blaming him. In relationship such things happen but that doesn't mean one should end his/her life. Life has bigger things stored in it. The whole thing is very unfortunate. People face bigger problems in life and still live on the hope to see better days in life.
It is basically the inability of the youngsters to cope with the frustration that pushes them beyond the edge of sanity. The problem is that they are given everything on the platter, so they just don’t know how to solve their problems. The difference between how youngsters behave and are perceived by others leads to imbalance in the confidence levels. They see themselves through other’s vision, so if a guy or a girl tells them that they are not good enough, they take it as a gospel truth and this fiction between, ID, ego and super ego, leads to emotional failure, pushing them towards suicide at times.
The arrest of Sooraj Pancholi has surprised the legal experts in the country because of the lack of convictions in such cases. Evidence in this case is unconvincing. Even if the letter is dated, it doesn't mean the person had immediate provocation to commit suicide.
In cases where cops have suicide notes, there is no clear trend that they actually end up as evidence to convict people. In 2008, actor Naveen Nischol and his brother, Pravin were acquitted of charges of abetting the suicide of former's wife, Geetanjali. She had left a suicide note holding Navin responsible. The acquittal order came after defense lawyer said Geetanjali had taken the step while suffering from depression and there was no evidence that she was pushed to suicide.
A Mumbai court discharged pilot Arjun Menon for abetting air hostess Sucheta Anand in 2008, saying there was not enough evidence to try him. Police had relied on SMSes exchanges between the two before she ended her life.
The Supreme Court’s 2010 order, which said “Abetment, involves a mental process of instigating a person or intentionally aiding a person for committing suicide. Without a positive act or on the part of the accused to instigate or aid in committing suicide, conviction can’t be sustained.
Similarly in the recent case, there is no evidence to prove that Sooraj Pancholi deliberately provoked or instigated Jiah to commit suicide. We are now more or less aware of the end result of this case. Then why this melodrama and media trial?
Emotional Learning:-
Each individual’s capacity to handle stress differs. Youngsters in relationships should learn to deal with such situations and get out of them with a positive mindset. Also these days children don’t go to their parents, for help which I feel, needs to change. Whether you live in a joint family or nuclear family a dialogue has to be there between parents and the children. Parents have to ask about how the child’s day went. It’s not policing, it’s being involved in your child’s activities. Chat at the dinner table, watch TV together- the more involved you are, the more a child thinks before doing something drastic and therefore will not take such an extreme step. He/she will not want to hurt the parent. The more inert parents remain, the more the children won’t feel anything for them.

So, it was on Jiah to decide whether she should have killed herself or instead should have gone for a cup of coffee.
